The project examines the teapot as a cultural, formal and functional object by breaking it down into its individual parts and creating an archive of hundreds of handmade ceramic variations. Each part was assigned a code, borrowing from the cataloguing language of archaeological artifacts while simultaneously resembling a digital file name. The parts are repeatedly assembled into temporary objects, then taken apart and rearranged into new configurations.

Through this ongoing cycle of making, assembling and dismantling, the project explores craft through labor, repetition and a commitment to the physical process, set against the speed, immediacy and restlessness of the digital present.

This project was part of the Benyamini Contemporary Ceramics Center residency program.
